On my recent reel of Choo Lo Guitar Solo Tabs, I got a lot of comments asking which processor and patch I use. Here’s how you make a patch for distortion leads/solos in any multi-effects processor. I have used NUX MG30 here; however, all the effects that I used are fairly common and can be found on any other processor (eg, Zoom, Boss, Line 6, Mooer).
Step 1: Amp + Cab (IR)
Pick a British-style amp (try PLEXI 100) and a matching 4×12 cabinet (try Greenback). This will give us a base raw tone.
Step 2: Tube Screamer + Noise Gate
Add a Tube Screamer with boosted ‘levels’ and a Noise Gate to get rid of the hiss. This will tighten the tone.
Step 3: Delay/Reverb
Add a delay and/or reverb of your choice to add ambiance and sound spacious. That’s it.
This patch is designed for singing, sustaining lead tones perfect for solos, melodic runs, and expressive phrasing. Ideal for rock, fusion, power ballads, and expressive solos. Easy to tweak — works as a great base for your custom tone. Add an EQ to further shape the tone.
Signal Chain
Tube Screamer > Noise Gate > Amp + Cab > Delay > Reverb
